Service Learning is an integral part of the Barat experience. Our program engages students in mental, physical, and spiritual connections to a central theme, both inside and outside the classroom.
While the themes for years ahead have yet to be determined, the themes of elder care, literacy, and poverty are under consideration. The theme of ecological awareness and environmental stewardship belongs to the freshmen.
Throughout the school year, students travel to sites such as Busch Wildlife and Faust Park to encounter the environment in diverse ways. We hope students will gain a lasting connection to their role as stewards of the earth while they assist these organizations with various ecological projects such as trail building, water testing, and tree maintenance.
After working onsite in the morning, the students will return to Barat for lunch, and the afternoon will be devoted to research and projects focused on the theme. As such, our Service Learning program will truly emphasize both service and learning in a holistic way.
