Madeleine Sophie Barat
Madeleine Sophie Barat, foundress of the Society of the Sacred Heart

Saint Madeleine Sophie Barat, foundress of the Society of the Sacred Heart, was certainly a visionary. As early as the 1800’s, she sought to establish schools that produced students not only educated to the highest academic standards, but also who would have a “transforming influence on society.”  Her vision and revolutionary model of education are alive and well today at Barat Academy

Barat Academy, is challenged by the bold vision of St Madeleine Sophie.  Here, we’ve built a 21st Century High School, rooted in the Catholic faith, committed to academic excellence in a rigorous college preparatory environment, and dedicated to the education of a community of student leaders.

September 4, 2007 was an extraordinary and historic day, for it was on that day that Barat Academy opened our doors to a new generation of students. Archbishop Raymond Burke celebrated Barat’s opening liturgy and then blessed the building.  The students, parents, faculty, and friends joined together to open the first private, independent, catholic school in St. Charles county. What a remarkable event it was.

My hope is that many will continue to join our community at Barat as we reshape education for today’s world while holding strongly to the 19th century vision of St. Madeleine Sophie. Consider becoming a part of the Barat Academy journey – a journey that calls us to love, to learn, to serve, to build, and to grow. A journey that will transform society.
