Service Learning

Now in its sixth year, Barat’s Service Learning Program reaches a wide and diverse group of constituencies. The program remains grounded in its primary goal of achieving the third goal of Sacred Heart education: “a social awareness which impels to action.”

Each of Barat’s three grade levels encounters a distinct Service Learning theme. The freshman theme of “Environmental Awareness and Ecological Stewardship” sends students to local parks and nature reserves. The sophomore theme, “Nurturing Our Youthful Neighbors,” places students at crisis nurseries in the area. The junior theme of “Assisting Area Adults” provides assistance to local elder care facilities, homes for developmentally disabled persons, and a shelter for pregnant women. The senior class delves deeper into service they are most passionate and interested in learning about with The Peace Project.
